Rivera Maya, Mexico
Rivera Maya, Mexico
I, Carolien Egan, Mexico expert at James TravelPOINTS, had the pleasure of a getaway to the beautiful Riviera Maya, Mexico. The resort that we stayed at was the Catalonia Royal Tulum (formerly the Copacabana Beach Resort) located on the pristine Xpu Ha (sh-poo-Ha) Beach. I found this delightful All-Inclusive resort perfect for down time and a nice family break.
The resort has 288 air conditioned rooms, large in size with all the amenities needed, including stocked mini bar. The Main Lobby is an airy and a comfortable place to enjoy a drink or just sit and people watch. Just pass the lobby is a lightly wooded tropical forest with a wooden bridge, overlooking the natural cenotes. The stone walkway between the buildings weaves through the tropical forest and then through a mangrove. From there it’s on to a huge lagoon pool and the AMAZING Xpu Ha beach.
The dining was very fresh and tasty, not to mention the great drinks at the bars. This resort offers 3 specialty restaurants, 2 bars and 2 buffet style restaurants. We enjoyed the beach bar service; it was quite a treat to have a nice cold one anytime we wanted. The beach has several palapas, offering us the perfect place to relax in the shade. The 4 Jacuzzis overlook the palm trees and ocean; we found it to be so relaxing.
The beach has crystal clear water and just enough waves to do a little body surfing. It’s a great place for a leisurely walk, about 2 miles from one end to another. The snorkeling in this area was just steps into the water and was outstanding, seeing sea turtles was a highlight.
I would most defiantly recommend this resort and beach area. Out of the many beaches I’ve seen in Mexico – Xpu Ha beach has truly won a spot in my heart; it’s breathtaking, quiet and relaxing. The Catalonia Royal Tulum is a great choice to get away as a couple or great for family fun.
