Tibet Tourism Stops Foreign Visitors From Entering Tibet

FROSCH Travel received word today from a Tour Operater in Tibet, that the Tibet Toursim Adinistration called together all the travel agencies in
Tibet for a meeting and release the news unofficially that Tibet Tourism
Administration stops issuing its permission letters to all the foreign tourists who
are interested in visiting Tibet area starting from June 04.

According to VOA news report, at around 14:00 on May 27, two lamas immolated
themselves in protest in front of Jokhang Temple. The police stopped its turmoil in
time and took them away. This sparked the large protests in Tibet area. Another
report from the Radio Free Asia, saying, on May 27, three lamas rioted in protest
against the Government’s policy and religious controls in front of Jokhang Temple,
suddenly 2 of them set themselves on fire. It had aroused fear of the protests and
disturbances that may follow.

So just for the safety for the foreign tourists, Tibet local government, Tibet Tourism
Administration and custom house has decided to stop its permission for foreign
visitors to enter the Tibet.

When it will be open again to allow foreign visitors to enter the Tibet, we will keep
you posted.  According to its regulation, the permission letters will be issued 10
days prior to Tibet.
